e9 Final Exam

This quarter, we began on a big project that would last us until finals. We were put in teams of four and tasked with coming up with a product that does not exist, then to market it every way we have worked with in the past. Logos, websites, ads, coupons, commercials, you name it. It was sort of challenging coming up with everything, but we were led through rotations that helped a lot.

One challenge was the commercial, as the effects needed were really hard to get ahold of and perfect. The lightning bolt in the commercial had to be meticulously animated. We weren't given a whole lot of feedback until everything was practically finished and all the groups were getting ready to present their products. About half way through, we figured out a really cool slogan and started using it in more places. I am really proud of what my group created, and I feel we were tough competition, especially since another group in a different hour had an almost identical product to ours.

We started off by designing the product and logo. Our product was Zap Key, a key that shrinks your car to the size of a toy, so you don't have to waste time parking or paying for parking. We started by having everyone come up with different iterations of a logo, and went with one for the product and another for the company: Zapp Inc.. Next we designed the website, ad, and coupons. Jack did most of the website, putting in our materials as needed. I designed a short GIF for an ad, and Halee made some coupons. Andrew helped with miscellaneous tasks. Then we moved onto the commercial. We got some help from two people to be in the ad, and to film their cars. We used fancy flashy cars to make it seem more appealing. Then we all designed commercials and chose Andrew's, as he did a lot of research to get a lightning bolt effect going.

Several rotations, we would finish early, and so we would go back over everything we did, checking for mistakes and making improvements. We communicated with each other on every level on everything we did. We didn't have to come in often outside of class because we generally got our work done on time, but we collaborated to meet outside class to shoot the video.

After going through a whole year of e-Comm, I feel more prepared to tackle my own projects and I have background knowledge on a lot of programs. I even got to test out my skills editing a video for a project outside of school, and it went really well. I also got to put my logo designing to work coming up with lots of ideas for various things, and I feel I will have plenty more opportunities to put my newly acquired skills to the test.

I still struggle a little with GIFs and anything Adobe Photoshop related, and I do hope to improve. I was a little shy at first with my group, but I soon warmed up and wasn't afraid to speak my mind.

I really enjoyed this quarter, and not everything was so stressful, and I wouldn't mind doing something like this again, but maybe outside of school. If we could do this again, I would want to try out different products and use different tactics as I go. This quarter helped me put my knowledge into a tangible project and get more accustomed to working on these kinds of things in a group. Next year, I hope to improve my skills so I can make decent works without taking a really long time (which is not a bad thing, I just want to get more acquainted with everything).
